Product Life Cycle

Life Cycle

Currently, there is a lot of attention given to the sustainability of products. As a company, we also want to contribute to the well-being of our environment. Therefore, we have decided to adopt a circular approach for our product, as much as possible, instead of a cradle-to-grave approach. In this life cycle, the product is divided into three different parts: the device itself, the filter, and the scent pads. With this approach, we aim to utilize the parts for as long as possible, minimizing unnecessary waste.

Reusing

Since we sell our product through a monthly subscription, there is a possibility that customers may no longer be satisfied with it. In such cases, customers have the option to send the product back to our company. Our employees will then assess it for any damages and evaluate its quality. This applies to products that are less than six years old, as that is the minimum expected lifespan. After six years, we cannot guarantee that the quality will be almost the same as a new product.

Repairing

If the product is broken, we expect our customers to send it back to our company for inspection. Trained employees will then disassemble the product and repair it if possible. We anticipate that the electronics will be the first component in our product to break. If feasible, our employees will repair the electronics. Additionally, we have discovered that with proper treatment, the quality of HEPA filters can be restored up to six times. Therefore, when we send customers a new HEPA filter, they can return the old one in the same box and receive a discount on their subscription. This approach is both sustainable and profitable for the company since we only need to purchase new filters after six uses.

Refurbishing

The final step we take within the company is refurbishing the product by replacing mechanical parts that have lower estimated lifespans. This is likely to be the case for the ultrasonic transducer of the humidifier and the fan of the purifier. By replacing these parts, we can maintain the quality of our product without manufacturing a completely new one. If refurbishing is not possible, we will disassemble the product.

Recycling

Recycling will be outsourced, encompassing all the disassembled parts that cannot be repaired or refurbished any further. Additionally, recycling will apply to the HEPA filters, as there are specialized companies capable of recycling the unique fibers within the filters. However, it's important to note that not all components of our product can be recycled. The scent pads, for instance, are designed for single-use and are disposed of after that.
